It has been decided that carbon monoxide alarms must be fitted in all private rental properties. The property owners are to cover the costs of both installation and maintenance. 

These alarms are to be installed in properties with fixed appliances such as gas boilers or fires - they must also be fitted when new appliances (again, such as gas boilers or fires) are installed in any home.
